High School Bekker

Cambria Hostel

Cambria is the senior boys hostel at Bekker High School.  The hostel accommodates grade 10-12 boys.  The name of the hostel comes from the Welsh word “combrogi” meaning “ fellow countrymen, compatriots”.  Cambria is a very proud hostel with strong values.  The hostel flag consists of various symbols.

Symbolism – colour:  The colour yellow is the colour of sunshine.  It’s associated with joy, happiness, intellect and energy.

Symbolism –  book of knowledge: Pillar of academics.  Knowledge is power.

Symbolism –  cultural masks:  Cultural pillar.

Symbolism – torch:  Ability to serve as a guiding light.  Lightning the way for others, brightens the path for themselves.

Symbolism – hands:  Strength in unity – supportive in guiding the light of Cambria.

Symbolism – shield:  Represents protection, faith and safety.

Symbolism – Slogan: Transition to seniority, comes with responsibility.

At Cambria we understand that the cost of discipline is always less than the price of regret.  We at Cambria strive to prepare learners for life after school.  We teach learners the importance and value of brotherhood and being part of something bigger.
